Simply Law Jobs has revealed the top 10 highest paying jobs in the UK law industry in 2018.
The niche legal job board released the figures recently in its 2017-18 annual report, alongside data surrounding jobseekers in the industry. The report includes job hotpoints, gender insight, job category information, top growth areas and more surrounding legal professionals and their preferences for a new job.
The report reveals the top 10 highest paying roles in the legal industry based on the salary information law firms advertised on Simply Law Jobs’ website. The 10 highest paid jobs in 2018 were:
- Patent Attorney
- Legal Counsel
- Head of Legal
- Professional Support
Alongside revealing the roles with the highest paying average salary in 2018, the report also revealed the YoY difference in average salaries in the industry from 2017-18.
Advocate roles in particular saw the largest growth in salary, by 18.39%. The barrister category also saw a 16.32% increase. This could be due to the current demand there is for barristers – our data also showed that in 2018, jobs advertised for barrister roles increased by 78.2% from 2017.
Partner average salary also saw growth, specifically 9.67% – again, demand could easily have been a factor in the increase. Jobs advertised on our site increased from 2018 by 90.31%.
Other categories benefitting from growth in average salary included Legal Cashier (10.64%) and Legal Secretary (7.59%). Solicitor roles increased by 4.44%, and more specifically, Duty Solicitor average salary grew by 8.11%. Licensed Conveyancer salary grew by 6.15%.
CEO of Simply Law Jobs Ian Partington said: “A number of professions in the law industry have benefitted from a significant salary increase over the last couple of years. The increase in salary could be very much related to the shortage in the relevant roles, therefore a more attractive salary being offered may be enough to quash competitors when recruiters look to attract top talent.”
