The impact of Covid-19 on employment in the job market has already been substantial across many sectors and with government support schemes due to end next week, a fresh wave of job cuts is expected.
But what is happening in the legal sector?
While there are some areas which are flourishing, such as Restructuring Lawyers, some areas have taken a hit. Many of the big law firms are yet to publish the results of their latest financial year but have forecast a difficult year ahead, with hundreds of careers hanging in the balance.
The legal industry is typically more resilient than other industries, such as aviation and hospitality, but the decline in deal making within the economy has resulted in a ripple effect to those working within the sector.
We asked the visitors of Simply Law Jobs in September why they were using the site and how they felt about their future career in the industry.

- 81% said they were concerned about the future of their career in law
- 77% said they would consider working in another sector if they couldn’t find the right legal position
- 78% said they would take a pay cut to avoid being out of work
- 64% said they would relocate if the right job came up further afield
